Daniel Simpkins, THE WINNERS, 2007 two from a series of twelve digital prints

The Turner Prize Extravaganza was the first in The Royal Standard's programme of unique one-off events that bring together studio members and artists from across the UK and beyond to respond to elements of the Liverpool-based organisation's context and locality, and raise essential funds for its livelihood.

Contributing to the dialogue surrounding the 2007 Turner Prize and its new location at Tate Liverpool, The Royal Standard presented an alternative live event to coincide with the judging and award ceremony on Monday 3rd December 2007. Visitors were invited to place bets on the winner and watch the "live final" in an evening of Turner Prize related activity and entertainment, artists' film and video, performance and intervention.

I contributed to the Performance, Intervention and Entertainment programme The Winners, a series of twelve digital prints that I auctioned intermittently throughout the course of the event. These prints announced unsuccessful nominees as Turner Prize winners from 1997-2007.

Wall text presented on the night:

THE WINNERS
Daniel Simpkins

A series of 12 texts exhibited throughout the space announce Turner Prize winners from 1997 - 2007. Blu-tacked to sheet glass the texts allude to window displayed, mass-produced election posters or garish shop sale signs, presenting a set of alternative histories in a retrospective propaganda campaign. Whilst they may not immediately reveal their deception the statements may emerge, after some discussion, as incongruent with remembered realities.

The prints will be auctioned intermittently throughout the night. All proceeds will be donated to The Royal Standard, please bid generously.
