/ past / possible / provisional /
Daniel Simpkins
Alternate and independent creative activity and urban regeneration have in common a parasitic occupation of space that seeks to be hosted where others vacate. In a city that posits creativity at the heart of its economic and physical development what are the implications for the future of the independent artists, organisations and venues that function intrinsically within the regenerative strategy and the areas it aims to renew?
/ past / possible / provisional / is an exploration of BLOC's distinct and rapidly changing locality. By intervening in and choreographing your route out of the gallery this pair of site-specific texts aims to inform your critique of a moment in BLOC's changing physical, social, cultural and economic environments. By ticking all the boxes of functions bestowed upon art by the city council, / past / possible / provisional / investigates the role of art in Sheffield's Economic Masterplan, including: enhancing social cohesion and local image, promoting interest in the local environment, supporting independence and exploring visions of the future.
